New Orleans police are searching for a teenager who has been missing since Tuesday morning, the department said. Javonte Bowie, 15, was last seen on Tuesday morning around 10 a.m. after leaving her school in the 3000 block of Higgins Boulevard near the Desire Development Neighborhood, according to a statement released by the New Orleans Police Department Friday morning.
Police said Bowie had called her mother earlier in the morning and asked to be taken out of school, but when her mother refused, Bowie became angry and left the school by herself without permission. Police said that while the teen has a history of running away, she has always returned home and this is the longest time she has ever been missing.
Bowie is described as 5-foot-1, weighing approximately 110 pounds, with a dark complexion and a long, black ponytail. She was last seen wearing her green school uniform, khaki pants and black-and-white shoes. She has tattoos of stars on her neck and the name "Shelondria" tattooed on her right shoulder blade.
Anyone with any information on Bowie's whereabouts is asked to contact 504.821.2222.
